MWCB - Dennis Rodman x McDonald's

In 1996 – just months before the Chicago Bulls would win their first title after Jordan’s comeback – McDonalds aired this commercial featuring Dennis Rodman and a set of special color-changing cups. And if Rodman is known for anything other than his wild playing style, it’s his hairstyles. So, when you combine the idea of color-changing cups and Rodman’s crazy hairstyles, you get what you see in this commercial – special cups featuring images of Dennis Rodman with hair that would change color when filled with an ice-cold beverage.

The initial cups featured a blonde-haired Dennis Rodman whose hair would change to either green, blue, or pink. McDonalds distributed 20,000 Rodman cups in a promotional giveaway during a Bulls game at the United Center in 1996. The demand for the cups was high, and a broader distribution by McDonalds followed some months after the initial promotion.

Some time after the initial commercial, another set of cups featuring different color combinations was released, and there was also a special 1997 championship cup. Complete sets can sometimes be found for purchase online, and these are surely a must-have for Bulls fans.

We really miss these kinds of promotional giveaways like these cups today, not just for players and sports, but also for movies, etc.
