Wie erkenne ich echte Vintage Kleidung? 5 Tipps vom Experten

How to spot real vintage clothing: 5 expert tips

Not everything that looks old is vintage. The market is full of reproductions and pieces that don't live up to their promises. These 5 tips will help you recognize genuine vintage clothing.

What exactly is Vintage?

Clothing that is at least 20-25 years old is considered vintage. Pieces from the early 2000s are now vintage, and those from the 90s even more so. Pieces from the 80s and earlier are called "True Vintage."

Tip 1: The label tells all

  • Country of Origin - "Made in USA," "Made in West Germany," or "Made in France" indicate pieces from the 80s or earlier.
  • Logo Version - The Adidas Trefoil logo was only used until 1991. If you see it, the piece is at least 35 years old.
  • Label Material - Old labels are often made of satin or thick woven material.

Tip 2: The material feels different

Genuine vintage clothing from the 80s and 90s is often made from significantly heavier materials. A 90s Champion Reverse Weave sweatshirt weighs almost twice as much as a modern sweatshirt of the same size.

Tip 3: Embroidery beats print

Genuine pieces have embroidered logos - not printed ones. Look at the back of the logo: With genuine embroidery, you'll see the thread structure. With a print, you'll see a smooth surface.

Tip 4: Look for wear and tear

  • Pilling - Small knots in the fabric at friction points
  • Faded colors - Many washes leave their marks
  • Natural yellowing - White cotton fabric becomes slightly yellow over time - this is normal

Tip 5: Buy from a reputable curator

At Double Double Vintage, each piece is individually inspected and provided with an honest description. In our entire collection, you will find exclusively handpicked vintage clothing from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.
