Commercial Break Special - Spike Lee
A special occasion calls for a special Commercial Break! It's the birthday of none other than Spike Lee, legendary film director, producer, screenwriter and actor.
With films such as "She's Gotta Have It", "Do the Right Thing" or "BlacKkKlansman", Spike Lee explores race relations, urban crime and poverty and other social and political issues.
Besides his success in movies, Spike Lee also starred in several Jordan brand commercials. Especially those from the 90s are probably amongst the most iconic ads of the time. For this special commercial break, we present you the "Nike Air Jordan - Genie of the Lamp" commercial featuring Spike Lee as his character Mars Blackmon, late singer Little Richard as the Genie of the Lamp and of course Michael Jordan.
The commercial aired in 1991 for the release of the Nike Air Jordan 6 - the shoe MJ won his first ever NBA championship with.
In the commercial itself we can see a Genie doing what it does best which is granting a wish. Since money and a car are not an option for Spike Lee in the commercial, he gets what he truly wishes for: Being like MJ. Literally.
In addition to movies and commercials, Spike Lee has also consistently impressed with outfits - whether on set or courtside with the New York Knicks. Check out some of our favorites here:
