Commercial Break Special - Spike Lee

Commercial Break Special - Spike Lee

A special occasion calls for a special Commercial Break! None other than Spike Lee, the legendary director, producer, screenwriter and actor, is celebrating his birthday.

With films such as "She's Gotta Have It", "Do the Right Thing" or "BlacKkKlansman", Spike Lee addresses themes such as racism, the experiences of African Americans in the USA and other social political issues.

In addition to his film successes, Spike Lee also appeared in several Jordan Brand commercials. The commercials from the 90s are probably among the most iconic commercials of that time. In today's Commercial Break, we present the "Nike Air Jordan - Genie in a Bottle" spot featuring Spike Lee as his character Mars Blackmon, singer Little Richard as the Genie in a bottle and, of course, Michael Jordan.

The commercial was aired in 1991 to coincide with the release of the Nike Air Jordan 6 - the shoe with which MJ won his first NBA championship.

In the spot itself, we see a genie doing what he does best, which is granting a wish. Since money and a car are not an option for Spike Lee in this commercial, he gets what he really wanted: He becomes like MJ. Literally.

In addition to films and commercials, Spike Lee has also impressed with his outfits - whether on set or courtside at the New York Knicks. Check out some of our favorites here:
