Michael Jordan Gatorade Commercial 23 vs 39

MWCB - Gatorade "23 vs. 39"

The cooperation between Michael Jordan and Gatorade goes all the way back to 1991 when the legendary "Be Like Mike" commercial aired for the first time ever.

When the "23 vs. 39" Gatorade commercial aired during Super Bowl XXXVII on Jan 26th 2003, we were just a few months away from Jordan's third and definite NBA retirement and this commercial almost feels like a conclusion to his one of a kind career.

First we get to see an older, mature Jordan, playing by himself on the court until a younger version, of course all dressed up in the Chicago Bulls kit matching with the OG red and white Air Jordan 1s, challenges him to a one-on-one.

While they are playing, we can experience the difference play style of the 39 and the 23 year old Jordan. The younger version is more athletic and stormy whereas the mature Michael plays more tactical and is more thoughtful of his moves, showing all the knowledge he gained since his start in the NBA back in 1984.

After their exhausting back and forth, both take a break and drink a refreshing Gatorade until an even younger version pulls up. This time, it's the version of him playing college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels. 39 year old Jordan then tells his 23 year old self to get out there and play college Mike.

Fun fact: The younger version of Mike was played by NBA player Jamal Crawford but all the dunking was actually done by Harlem Globetrotter Kevin Daley.

The team behind the commercial put a lot of effort into it, so check out the behind the scenes to see how they pulled it off:
