Michael Jordan Gatorade Commercial 23 vs 39

MWCB - Gatorade "23 vs. 39"

The collaboration between Michael Jordan and Gatorade dates back to 1991, when the legendary commercial "Be Like Mike" first aired.

When the Gatorade commercial "23 vs. 39" aired during Super Bowl XXXVII on January 26, 2003, we were only a few months away from Jordan's third and final NBA retirement, and this commercial almost feels like a culmination of his unique career.

First, we see an older, more mature Jordan standing alone on the court until a younger version, of course in a Chicago Bulls jersey with the OG red and white Air Jordan 1s, challenges him to a one-on-one.

As they play, we can see the different playing styles of the 39-year-old and 23-year-old Jordans. The younger version is more athletic and impetuous, while the more mature Michael plays more tactically and thinks through his moves more carefully, showcasing all the knowledge he has gained since his NBA beginnings in 1984.

After the strenuous back and forth, both take a break and drink a refreshing Gatorade until an even younger version appears. This time, it's Jordan from his college days when he played for the North Carolina Tar Heels. The 39-year-old Jordan then tells his 23-year-old self to play against college Mike.

Fun Fact: The younger version of Mike was played by NBA player Jamal Crawford, but the dunks were performed by Harlem Globetrotter Kevin Daley.
