Supreme New York x Adler Mannheim?!

New York Streetwear Giant Supreme just released the first part of their Spring / Summer 2022 collection today. While we're scrolling through the Preview, one particular item catches our attention - The "Supreme Eagle Hockey Jersey". A big eagle on the front of a Hockey Jersey in the shades of blue, topped off by a load of Sponsorship Logos flipped in classic Supreme Style. Great, bold design - nothing unusual for the regular Supreme aficionado. But if you're from the middle sized town Mannheim in the South-West of Germany - like we are - this one hits different. That's because you know the reference for this new It-Piece immediately. It's basically a somewhat 1:1 copy of the 2001/02 Jersey of the Mannheimer Adler, our local Ice Hockey Club.
While it's known that Supreme has an extensive history of referencing / copying Vintage & older clothes, you gotta wonder how they got their hands on this particular Mannheimer Adler Design. In all fairness the 8-time Champions Adler Mannheim are a staple in the 1st. German Ice Hockey League and enjoy nationwide popularity. Yet we don't think there's any connection to Mannheim or their successful hockey team, that led to the design. It might just be the sick design, the bold eagle front or a random coincidence that led to this new "Mannheim Streetwear Grail".
The classic Supreme Logo flips are particularly funny for any Mannheim Citizen on this one. The "Radio Regenbogen" Logo - a local radio station - becomes "All Star Team" while the signature "World Famous" script graces the lower front in the classic "Mannheimer Morgen" font - which is our local newspaper. Further you can find the Logos of Mannheim Based Software Giant "SAP", "Siemens", "MLP" and "Roche" being flipped to Supreme Alterations. Regular Cool Spring piece for any Supreme Fan and a somewhat historic item for anyone from Mannheim.
By the way: We have a great 90s Starter Adler Mannheim reversible Jacket available in our Mannheim Store. Also if you're an Ice Hockey Fan, make sure you check out our NHL section online here!
